Michael Walsh & NQL - This Crucible Land

Angel Meadow is just off Manchester City Centre. Over the centuries its fortunes have reflected those of Manchester. During the industrial age it was described as hell on earth, with thousands of immigrants, often from Ireland, crammed into narrow streets and slums. Today it’s undergoing major regeneration, once again evolving the nature of this crucible land.

This performance features spoken word and music that explores stories of migration and identity

Michael Walsh was born in Manchester to Irish parents. He is an academic, composer, teacher and musician specialising in Irish and Asturian traditional music on the wooden flute. His critically acclaimed album, Quarehawk ( “This album moved me like no other”, Eileen McCabe, Irish Music Magazine ), which explores his Irish roots and themes of identity, has been played on national radio stations in both the UK and Ireland. He has recorded and performed with Ríoghnach Connolly, Michael McGoldrick, Poet Mike Garry and the Basque Trikitixa maestro Kepa Junkera amongst many.

Michael and Not Quite light have recently collaborated on a  new track called ‘Faultlines’
