The Conductor is a brand new artwork conceived and developed by Manchester based artist Mishka Henner .
The project has been developed as part of an artists’ residency at Energy House 2.0 at the University of Salford. The Energy House is a remarkable engineering project which attempts to channel extreme planetary climate conditions into a single chamber, to help designers develop new forms of low carbon and net zero housing for a more sustainable future.
The premise of The Conductor is to channel all the world’s thunder strikes through a single percussionist beating a drum each time a lightning strike is recorded. Live data used during the performance will come from a global network of sensors maintained by the Blitzortung.org project.
For performer and audience alike, the experience is a unique physical and sonic event which connects audiences to global climatic events in an intensely visceral way.
Developed in partnership with a team of acoustics engineers at the University of Salford, the performance will take place for the very first time at SFTOC 24 within the Acoustics department’s Reverberation Chamber.
Each performance will be for limited audiences. Sign up will be on a first-come, first served basis, on the day. Details of how to sign up will be released shortly. Sign up to our mailing list to keep up to date
"be part of a unique moment in time when humanity first experienced a planetary connection to climatic events."
