{Carriage Return} | Sounds From The Other City – Sounds From The Other City
Salford's festival of new music and art • Every early May Bank Holiday •
typewritten representation of two people facing each other . Head and shoulders. The drawing is done with black charcaters and the lips are red. Each face has a box around it.

{ Carriage return } at GK Gallery, Salford, May 1st – June 12th 2022.

{Carriage Return} is a postal exchange of typewriter drawings between Hilary Judd and Lucy May Schofield. They have been corresponding, solely by typewritten means, since 2018 between Manchester and the remote Northumbrian countryside.

The project celebrates the limitations of the typewriter’s mechanisms; a love of the noisy click/clack, the miss hits and mistakes. At this year’s festival they invited the audience to come along and make a drawing, write a sonnet or add to our SFTOC (slowly) rolling news feed throughout

An exhibition of their typewriter drawings, prints and artist’s books are on display on the mezzanine floor at GK Gallery and tea shop until Sunday 12th June. They have left a baby blue IMPERIAL 200 typewriter in the gallery to encourage anyone visiting the space to leave them a message, a secret or typewriter drawing.
