Outside of Sounds From The Other City, our team has been cooking up some projects under a new banner of ‘From The Other’, and we’ve teamed up with the brilliant Manchester Science Festival to put together Turn It Up: Live.
Looking to the future of music and technology we’ve programmed the energised, hypnotic, electronic noise of Giant Swan, industrial techno of AJA, and experimental DJ selections of Abena, alongside live visuals from Izzy Bolt.
Before the show you’ll be able to check out the world-premiere special exhibition, Turn It Up: The power of music, and discover the incredible ways in which technology is changing the way music is made and enjoyed. It’s going to be a one-of-a-kind after-hours night at the Science & Industry Museum.
Tickets are £12 (£9 concessions) and include free entry to the exhibition, which is normally £8!
Giant Swan is the brainchild of Robin Stewart and Harry Wright, who both have strong ties to Bristol’s deep musical heritage. Building on a foundation of rhythmic tension and frenzied improvisation, no two performances are the same.
Aja is an award-winning artist making deconstructed club and industrial techno. Her live shows are described in The WIRE Magazine as ‘shifting from ethereal diffusions to potent explosions’.
Abena is a Manchester-based DJ who is part of All Hands On Deck, a DJ collective that runs workshops and open deck parties for women, trans and non-binary people.
Izzy Bolt has previously provided visuals for festivals and live events, including The Warehouse Project. Her work has been exhibited in Caustic Coastal, The Lowry, Kings Place Gallery and MIRA Film Nights.
