Work Them/Pop Deviant & friends @ Black Lion (downstairs)
Last year was the first year that we were unable to work with the Black Lion, due to the building being closed. This year due to the huge efforts of the people at Future Artists, the building is fully back up and operational and to celebrate that fact we are going to be partying upstairs and down! Providing the soundtrack to the lower floors will be:
Pop Deviant, a handful of Manchester based pop critics who come together semi-regularly to compile some of their best writing of 2011 into a zine. Their Monday Night DJ residency in the Deaf Institute bar sees them prop various music journalists from across the city, be playing some of their favourite new music from Manchester and beyond, including liminal pop anthems, mind bending electronica, and RnB.
Work Them, a forward thinking, backwards glimpsing monthly clubnight, specialising in exciting alternative and charismatic dance music. Records for the booty shakers, the beard strokers and the awkward ravers, with a healthy sideline in up and coming live acts. Attempting to cover every sound from Atlas to Pearson, it’s essentially an extensive, volunteer funded research programme hoping to find the missing link between Edwyn Collins and Flying Lotus, masquerading as a clubnight!
