After playing his first ever UK show at Islington Mill in November 2011, Shigeto returns to Salford to headline the Mind on Fire and This City Is Ours stage at The Old Pint Pot. Following the recent release of his Lineage LP (Ghostly International), Shigeto returns to perform a special collaborative set with MC Self Says.
Beat-driven but given to richly textured sound design, rhythmically fractured but melodically sumptuous, Shigeto’s music is a bridge between the past and present, bringing the artist face to face with a creative legacy that spans decades.
Zach Saginow was brought up on a steady diet of Michigan-bred music, as his father spoon-fed him old Motown and jazz records by the crateload. Zach picked up the drums at an early age, spending much of his childhood playing in the Detroit/Ann Arbor music scene. After nearly flunking out of high school—save for his music studies—Zach spent three years studying jazz at the New School in NYC and three more in London, where he began woodshedding, obsessed with learning electronic production. Soon enough, beats materialized, he moved to Brooklyn and took up the name Shigeto,
Zach’s body of work has grown over the last few years to the tune of several EPs on Moodgadget as Shigeto and with A Setting Sun, a pair of EPs under the alias Frank Omura (another family-name reference), and remixes for Worst Friends, Praveen & Benoit, Tycho, Mux Mool, Charles Trees, A Setting Sun, Beautiful Bells, Shlohmo, and more.
Cool shades of ambient music, stuttering early IDM, dubstep sub-bass, and jazz melodicism color Shigeto’s palette, which he wields with a painterly attention to detail.

Lapalux follows his 2012 Brainfeeder release with a debut Manchester show for Sounds From The Other City. Stuart Howard aka Lapalux has come up with something special for his first release with Cali’s finest, having made his name with his cassette-only “Many Faces Out Of Focus” and acclaimed bootlegs and remixes he returns with a seven track EP of such poise and beauty, one listen is enough to know you’re onto something special.
Lapalux bathes your brain in lush textures, surprising and explosive atmospheres set in unencountered, unearthly spaces, all somehow perfectly set against catchy rolling choruses informed by pop and commercial R&B. On the “When You’re Gone” EP he channels and refines his sound and shapes it into hazy, woozy emotion. Whether working with a singer like Py (on “Moments”), or deconstructing found samples and his own voice, Howard stretches, bends and warps sound to make soul – not plastic posturing but real emotion made of synthetic sound.

Debian Blak has been honing his skills as a producer since the age of 16, though his passion for music began long before this, when at the tender age of 6 he first picked up the violin and began to tap away on the piano (not with the violin, mind). Fast forward to 2011 and Debian Blak is at the forefront of a generation of emerging creative artists in the UK.
His critically acclaimed debut EP A Hint of Menace (First Word Records) catapulted him onto the electronic music scene and marked him out as one to watch, with particular praise coming from artists such as Daedelus and Nicolas Jaar.
Debian Blak aims to share something personal with the musical world. His highly-anticipated debut material captures a rare moment of beauty. A musician first, his style reflects this and aims to position the listener inside the mix with an interesting blend of verging-on-abrasive sounds and smooth subtle tones, accented with musical details and melodies.

From the Kites of San Quentin were born out of a group of musician’s determination to do something truly unique. With one foot firmly planted in the glitch side of Electronica, and the other in the world of Future Dub & experimental Hip Hop, they are creating music that deserves the tag of ‘innovative.’ With influences ranging from the classic prog rock of Yes & Rush, to the more experimental hip hop sounds of some of today’s new breed of beat makers: Flying Lotus, Burial & Hudson Mohawke; they will not be pinned down or pigeonholed. Already drowning the Manchester scene in their bass heavy frequencies, From the Kites of San Quentin are a band that need to be experienced live.

At a time when most new bands are shouting loudly, desperately in your face for attention at every turn, Patterns’ rise to prominence is a refreshing recall to the days when new music and sounds were discovered as a result of meandering exploration, when gems were stumbled upon live, hiding away in metropolitan backwaters or isolated rural territories. In the four-piece’s case they were “found” last year in the basement venue of a Mancunian suburb, curating their own monthly shows – having only formed some weeks previously – their sincere, wistful dream-pop drifting up and out of the stairwell, illuminating their surroundings, painting its maudlin Autumnal streets in soft-glow Technicolor.

The name Danny Drive Thru may be one you have been hearing a lot more of recently and quite rightly so. The DJ, Producer (and thoroughly nice chap) has been having quite a busy 2011, with his music featuring on the Nihon Kizuna fundraiser compilation alongside the likes of Kode 9, Onra and Slugabed.
Although production is now his main focus, Danny originally made his name as a DJ, playing everything from Jungle to Hip Hop at various underground nights in Manchester. However his skills behind the decks haven’t gone un-noticed and he can be heard in clubs all over the country.
Add to this mixes for Fulgeance’s Musique Large blog and the Rhythm Incursions website amongst others and you can see he is a man in demand. His beats have been gaining wider acclaim this year too after his Virtua Rap single (Fat City) was picked up by such luminaries as Kutmah for his Stones Throw podcast and Thom Yorke, who not only featured the track in the Radiohead “Dead Air Space” chart but also in his set at the seminal Low End Theory in LA. Danny released his Psychedelia Smith 7”single on Mind on Fire Records in late 2011.
