Faktion @ Sacred Trinity Church

Faktion promote music before most people know it even exists. They have booked an incredible & select list of artists over eight years of venue and shape-shifting manoeuvres, including but not limited to – Shangaan Electro, 100% Silk, Omar Souleyman, Kode 9, Actress, Demdike Stare, Monolake, Shackleton, Rhythm & Sound, Shed,  & Convextion - giving all their first shows in Manchester. Currently they hold an irregular residency over at Islington Mill, needless to say they  have some very interesting events planned for the rest of 2012.

For SFTOC, Faktion are putting together a line-up centred around  MORDANT MUSIC, a band, label and myth maker that have  given new meaning to the word “uncategorisable” and  ”eccentric”.

Mordant Music have been responsible for some of the strangest, most innovative and downright beautiful music of the last few years” The Quietus

Mordant music are a mysterious and intriguing collective, weaving their curled audio edges for over a whole decade and fifty odd releases, featuring the likes of Shackleton, Sii and Mr. Maxted. Featuring on the day at SFTOC will be:

+ B A R O N   M O R D A N T

Acerbic, bucolic, crenellated, dogged, extant, furtive, greyscale, heraldic, iMMune, jellied, klepto, lapsed, mordant… Any of these words could be used to describe the enigma that is Baron Mordant.

Musically he flits between eerie and whimsy, baleful and jaunty; with influences as varied as early 90s UK techno to Boards of Canada. The baron, like the whole Mordant crew, have segregated a whole genre for himself, roughly fitting in with the whole Hauntological aesthetic, but creating an alchemical blend of post-rave electronics that sits in a field all of it’s own creation. These are the sounds released from his mind, blending FX swamped synthlines and dancefloor-suspicious rhythms with his own vocals to leave us clutching at straws for any analogical comparisons.

Baron Mordant will present and screen his latest findings from the BFI archives (check his amazing MisInforMation DVD for what to expect )

With recent performances with the likes of Maria Minerva and Leyland Kirby, Vindicatrix brings his dark cabaret to Sacred Trinity Church in a mish match made in heaven.  Musically hard to pin down,  traversing horror electronics, droning industrial, ethno-dubstep and skew-whiff minimal techno, Vindicatrix mixes Scott Walker histrionics and electro tones with unnerving confidence and flair.
